Jacqueline Hanzl (00:08)
Hey everyone, here is part two of us talking about episode two of Hard Knocks, Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills.

Diana (00:16)
⁓ So now that I've gone into two, you might want to jump in a little bit because I have more.

Jacqueline Hanzl (00:21)
When Josh, this first thing, Josh Allen steps on Hamler's foot, like by mistake. He backed it to, I was like, no, no. I know, I know, and huge feet. It's so funny, cause I, you know, just found out about him last year, obviously. I do think he is adorable. Like, how can you not think he's adorable? He's, he has like a boyish face, but he's a big guy, but not huge, huge. I don't know. He's just interesting. He's...

Diana (00:26)
that poor guy. know. Dude, he's, he's huge. Josh is huge. He's huge.

Always, always, yeah.

Jacqueline Hanzl (00:49)
He's got a presence about him and he's adorable. He has such a boyish charm to him, but he's articulate and he seems sweet and yeah, he's like, he's the golden boy. mean, my God. He can't do, you know, he's just.

Diana (01:01)
He and if you, you

we're not gonna go deep into his back, like his backstory, but if you ever want to like go down the rabbit hole and cause I re like, I remember when we got him, like when we drafted, I remember talking to my dad about him and just like, and then getting to know more and they share more about like his days in Wyoming. And he shared like how, I mean, you see it in commercials. There's been like,

Jacqueline Hanzl (01:14)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

Diana (01:26)
commercials about his story sort of in pieces about like how it like he was You know reaching out because nobody wanted him So anyway, he just he's the perfect fit for Buffalo he gives you that like Jim Kelly type He's gonna be with us. He's gonna retire. Yeah, like he's yeah, that's it. He doesn't I don't he doesn't need to and look at like when they stop

Jacqueline Hanzl (01:28)
Mm-hmm.

Wow.

Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah, he's, I mean, he's supposedly has said, I don't care about money. It's, yeah, yeah, no.

Diana (01:55)
start talking about like over the summer like getting married and all like with Hayley and like they're freaking adorable.

Jacqueline Hanzl (01:59)
my god, so cute. Best day of

my life. I think she thinks so.

Diana (02:04)
He's charming, he's sweet, he's funny. No, he's not cocky. mean, you, yeah. Just look around the NFL.

Jacqueline Hanzl (02:07)
I know he's got, but he's not fake. Like there's not, you don't feel like he's fake. If he's, if he's, then he's a great actor because he's like, he's adorable. And

yeah. yeah. Yeah.

Diana (02:19)
Enough said. There's

a certain type of player that plays in Buffalo. It just is. I mean, so. And he's our guy. Josh freaking Allen.

Jacqueline Hanzl (02:24)
Yeah. Yeah, definitely.

Yeah. Again,

I just said, I love Hamler, his scooter and then his commentating when he's like, I should be a commentator. He's like, commentating. I would do that. Like I would have done the same. Like he was, I loved him. I felt this was the whole thing with McDermott having the cancer on his nose and like, my God, just like, ⁓ just felt for him.

Diana (02:44)
Yeah.

I know, I know.

Yeah, he's always been a big pusher for, you know, education and all that about, yeah, yeah. Cause he's so fair skinned and, ow.

Jacqueline Hanzl (02:58)
sunscreen and all that, I'm sure. Well, yeah, it just, it's, it's, yeah. It was just a lot. He seems so sweet and

amazing, like the heart and the passion, you know, I want to say one thing, like, you know, people who are into sports and there's like a little bit of a stereotype and it's like, sports, they get paid so much money and da, da, da, da, da, da, all of these people are.

Diana (03:18)
Mm-hmm.

Jacqueline Hanzl (03:23)
really passionate and like really devoted to their craft. And it is a craft and it's a skill and you have to work at it. And they can make, you you feel like, you feel like some of them are sub, are like not human in a way with the things they can do. And it brings, it really can bring a little magic into your life. Sometimes you see stuff, you're like, my God, how did they do that? And that, that's what I think is great about it. And

Diana (03:39)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Yeah.

Jacqueline Hanzl (03:51)
You know, when you get into the stuff with the money and negotiating and the nastiness and all that stuff, that's what's nasty. But sports can bring joy to people. You sometimes it can bring stress. Like the Yankees give me an ulcer, but it's okay. It's okay. That's supposed to be my relaxation, but it's not.

Diana (04:01)
Yeah. Yeah. good Lord. Help us. ⁓ good Lord. Help us. I know, right?

Lately, we've...

Jacqueline Hanzl (04:11)
Anyway, not talking about the Yanks. Okay. So anyway, I just wanted to make that point. ⁓ you know, it's funny before I didn't know he had skin cancer before he talked about that. saw his big rim. I want one of those big rimmed Bilt Sam. my God. I have to get that. You know, I want the, I like my big rimmed hats and it's white, which is great. And I'm like,

Diana (04:13)
I know, I know.

Mm-hmm.

⁓ My sister's boyfriend has that hat. It's awesome.

I know I totally I'll when I'm in town next time. Yep.

Jacqueline Hanzl (04:37)
I want to say, so that's my fashion for this one, by the way, is the big rim tag. I have fashion in the next episode as well. ⁓ my God. I wrote Josh Allen. Stop. But he's like, when he's on that podcast and he's like, they're like, do you pitch roles to your wife about like acting roles? And he's like, role of husband. Then he's like, yeah, yeah, yeah. You get some high fives. Stop it. Stop. forgot what it's called. I think they need to follow our.

Diana (04:39)
Mm-hmm. It's a fantastic hat. I love that.

Bussin' boys.

I Yeah, I know. I actually follow their podcast, but, Bussin Boys, I think. Right. So I started following,

right. So, you know, it's funny, they have like a, I think it's like an old bus, right? So their set is like an old bus and it's got like beers. They weren't because they were obviously at the training camp, but, they had like,

Jacqueline Hanzl (05:13)
is that why it's called that? But they weren't, see they weren't in the bus with Josh Allen. They weren't, no.

Yeah.

Diana (05:23)
There's a singer that I like, Zach Topp, who was on that podcast. So I started following their podcast because he was on there. They were interviewing him or whatever. anyway, their set was really cool because it was like a bus and they're like there with the chairs and they got beers and they got like, they're obviously sponsored by, it's adorable. You have to check them out like on.

Jacqueline Hanzl (05:37)
my God. ⁓ I love that. We should record

at the pop-a-top. Duh. The pop-a-top is Diana's bar.

Diana (05:46)
we should record. No, you know what? should take this on the road

or go to the Raj Lodge. Yeah.

Jacqueline Hanzl (05:51)
Raj Laj, yeah, that's Diana's brother who lives in Buffalo, Buffalo

hair. I gonna say, I wonder if the Bussin guys record on Riverside, okay? That's all I have to say. We gotta find out. All right. ⁓ When they show, okay, this is really funny. You didn't watch the White Lotus, but obviously I did and talked about it. So I'm very still in that a little bit. ⁓ There's the scene where someone is putting their foot in ice and it's like,

Diana (06:02)
We could find out, I'm sure. Yeah, they're cool. They're cool. Good podcast.

Mm-hmm.

Jacqueline Hanzl (06:21)
watching the ice and they play this music. It is white lotus music. 100%. It's so funny. I'm like, what is this is white lotus? So that was funny. Oh my God. I mean, I don't know. I didn't know about this stuff. The Hamlin that Hamlin had a heart attack on the field. Holy.

Diana (06:23)
Yes.

⁓ okay.

Yeah.

So we

didn't talk about this but um so that was back um January 2023 I think it was? Yeah. So that was a night game and I remember it's kind of like that moment you know where they're like where were you for this? Where were you? So we were all together watching the game, the boy right? And I think we had put at my house, yeah we were here.

Jacqueline Hanzl (06:48)
They said 2023, I know that. didn't know it.

Yeah, yeah.

At your home. You weren't in Buffalo. Okay.

Diana (07:10)
We had put Devon to bed because it was like an eight o'clock game or something like that. think we, he like, he ended up, I think we put him to bed. But I, like, I still remember where Matt was sitting, where I was sitting in Jacoby and it happened. And you don't like, like.

Jacqueline Hanzl (07:14)
Mm-hmm.

Hmm.

Did he just

fall to the ground? Was he in the mid play or he was just like him with the ball? No.

Diana (07:30)
So it was, yeah, it was during a play, making a tackle. He's

a cornerback, which is a defensive guy, right? So he's trying to, he's covering, right? So he's obviously there to tackle, right? And cover wide receivers and who's, so he made a tackle and the impact, right? So he drops, right? But like in real time, you're just like sitting there. Cause we're like,

Jacqueline Hanzl (07:39)
Okay. Okay. So he was making.

Right, right, right. So was while he was tackling. And just dropped. Holy shit.

Diana (07:58)
game. It wasn't even that far into the game, right? It felt like it just started essentially, right? ⁓ And I still remember and like being just sort of like frozen because you didn't know. And even like the people reporting ⁓ the way they're... and then the ambulance and nothing's happening. Nothing's happening and you're just like, holy cow, like Jesus, like is this really happening right now?

Jacqueline Hanzl (08:01)
that's what I wanted to know too. It was the beginning. Okay. Okay.

Is he dead? Like seriously, that's crazy. Yeah, that's, yeah.

Diana (08:26)
And you could see if you and it's not something I would recommend watching, but you but watching it like you can see. I mean, they showed a little bit of like the players like it was so raw. And and then days after that, like when there was like it was just such a blessing. Right. I think he I think he grew up in Pittsburgh, actually. I think tomorrow is from Pittsburgh. ⁓ But anyway, just yeah, that everybody like you just don't know. Like.

Jacqueline Hanzl (08:35)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, oof.

Holy moly. Yeah.

And then after that watching him play and gets smacked around or whatever, I'm like, is this really good for you? Like think about that, like, I mean, most, how old was he? Yeah, yeah.

Diana (09:03)
So the fact that like he, right, like last year was obviously he's young, he's in his 20s. So

he was obviously cleared and everything. ⁓ He's gone through a lot.

Jacqueline Hanzl (09:15)
What the heck would

co- do we know why he at a such a young age had a heart attack? Do they know?

Diana (09:21)
So

was like cardiac arrest. So it had something to do with the impact. Who knows? Like that he's, it's hard stopped. I I don't think, I don't think I recall reading anything where he had like a pre, like, yeah, I don't, mm-hmm. He wouldn't be, yeah, right.

Jacqueline Hanzl (09:27)
Okay, so that might've actually caused it as opposed to, not saying it's good or bad, but at least like.

that he had a heart issue. Right, because I would think if he did, he'd be like, you can't play football. ⁓

Diana (09:43)
So he obviously, as you

Jacqueline Hanzl (09:43)
Okay.

Diana (09:45)
do know, like he does educate, like there's so much going on, you know that, like we all, I mean, we all were donating to whatever we could. ⁓ And so did, ⁓ so typically when things happen for other teams, the Bills Mafia donates to those teams as well and those players or those foundations or whatever. And obviously, you know, did the same, but that was wild. And I remembered our son like having so many questions.

Jacqueline Hanzl (09:48)
Yeah.

right.

Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Right. Cause he saw that. Yeah.

Diana (10:13)
Like, he going to be okay? And so we were following it

to help kind of ease his anxiety ⁓ because there was a lot of questions. I mean, we were all like.

Jacqueline Hanzl (10:19)
Yeah.

Well, like we just said, you

think of athletes as not human, right? That they're super superheroes almost. And that's really scary. And that young too. my gosh.

Diana (10:25)
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, yeah.

Yeah, that was yeah. Yeah, go ahead.

Jacqueline Hanzl (10:33)
I have Joe Andreessen, sorry.

Joe Andreessen adorbs. I mean, we already talked about him. That's adorable. ⁓ So Bills Mafia, when they were showing peeps from Bills Mafia, I said word. ⁓ And the woman who said that her husband drank her friend's breast milk.

Diana (10:51)
So, you know, it's funny. They didn't show it's I hope I don't know if this will end before the I'm hoping that they do the tailgate of the home home opener. I know that they showed, you know, little things and videos and all of that. And they're doing that. But like, I'm like, God, if you I mean, I remember our friend, our friend Nicole, right, when she was like.

Jacqueline Hanzl (11:02)
Yeah, they should. Right. Yeah. They gotta do a little more. Little more.

Diana (11:17)
She's like standing there like, think I'm gonna get into football. I'm dating somebody that likes football. And she didn't say anything about what team, right? And I was like, perfect, you're coming over Sunday. You are watching the Bills game. You're in the Mafia, let's go. So there she is with her Bills hat and whatever. And she comes with this necklace. was like, where? Well, the guy I'm dating is a Bills fan. I'm like, sounds like a incredible human being. Yep, Cho's right. ⁓ Right? So anyway, ⁓ so obviously we have that little like Woodstock.

Jacqueline Hanzl (11:21)
Yeah, right.

Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Perfect. Marry him. Okay.

Diana (11:47)
⁓ Bills Mafia chat group that we had like because then we have other for Karen like with some other people that love They love it. So what was my point of telling you about her? So I showed her a bunch of videos because then she was going to go to a game And I was like listen You got to be ready for this game. This the tailgate is is just as important. So I was showing her some some footage

Jacqueline Hanzl (11:48)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. We do. We have now we have a text thread. Yeah, that'll be starting up soon. Yeah.

We talked about the breast milk, the tailgating. yeah, she was, went to a game. She went to a game and you prepped her. Yes. Yes. It's hardcore. Yes. I kind of want to just go to tailgate. Like I

totally would like to do that.

Diana (12:14)
I'm

not kidding when we were, I don't hate this idea too is you see people tailgate, they'll get the, no they don't go to the game, they just listen to the game or watch the game somehow and they have like an app or whatever and you're right there. Because to be honest, as much as I love being at in the stadium and all of it seeing live, it's.

Jacqueline Hanzl (12:22)
tailgate and they don't actually go to the game. Don't they? They don't go to the game. Yeah. I'm totally down for that. As long as I can be warm. Yeah.

That's what it's about.

Yeah, of course.

Diana (12:39)
it's better to see it on TV because the TV timeout and you can't see like what's going on. mean, you know, so.

Jacqueline Hanzl (12:40)
It's being together. And yeah, yeah, of course. That's like when you go to a Yankee game and you terrible seats. Sorry.

Diana (12:50)
Right and so the best part really

I mean for a lot of people is the tailgate. It's it's it's a hoot. I wish they showed more of that so I'm hoping they're like showing the file cabinet pizza guy and the bowling ball shots which is they have to the the mustard ketchup guy like come on jumping through I mean they did show jumping through the tape all the things that you know we do but there's more than that so anyway it's so much fun.

Jacqueline Hanzl (12:54)
It's a tailgate. Hopefully they will.

my God. I hope so too. Come on. It's such a huge part of the bills. Come on now. Come on.

Mm-hmm.

⁓ so I had, okay.

Yeah, I'm sure I can feel it. Okay. Before I, cause I have questions for you about the preseason game. Before I, before we go into that, I'm going to say Trubisky. Trubisky to me is yummy. Very, I don't want him obviously to beat out Josh Allen, but he's to me yummy. Just to look at it like.

Diana (13:23)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

Mitch?

You're a fan?

He's been a good backup. Yeah, it's, I'm glad that they're

showing a little bit of those guys. They're definitely a crew. Yeah, he's been good.

Jacqueline Hanzl (13:44)
Like

he's more my type than Josh Allen. Not that anything's wrong with him. I'm also probably old enough to be Josh Allen's mother. I don't even know. And probably the other guy, but anyway, I'm into him. ⁓ Okay, so the preseason game that you went to, I wanted you to talk about the energy. But first I wanted to ask you, when did you get the tickets for that preseason game? And like.

Diana (13:49)
Mm-hmm.

Ha

Mmm.

so

that game was in July. I got them in the spring once once my mom Said the schedule came out and there was going to be a whole and the way we lined up going I was like we're going it's the only it's literally the only home preseason game. We're in town We were planning to be in town around that time anyway, and I was like it's it's kids day So like, you know bring the kids or whatever. So it's a little bit less. It's scaled back a little bit in my opinion ⁓

Jacqueline Hanzl (14:13)
Okay. There was going to be a home. The travel. Yeah. Yeah.

Okay.

perfect. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Diana (14:35)
We the tickets, arranged, we've got super fan Doris who's a friend ⁓ of ours and she, no, I bought the ticket, I bought the tickets for the group and we found, yeah, so we got sixth row. ⁓ So, you we were right there, which was great. We're on the wrong side, we're on the giant side, but whatever. I put Matt in charge, you know, whatever. ⁓ But it was still like a night, it was so.

Jacqueline Hanzl (14:40)
Is that how you got the tickets? Or no, you just got them like online or whatever.

Mm-hmm.

Yeah.

Whatever, yeah.

He missed.

Diana (15:03)
That day though, was so freaking hot. was like 90 degrees. But the energy was great. So Doris, who is our hostess with the mostest, she goes to every game. She obviously tailgate. She's like, I got the tailgate. Here, bring this, bring this, blah, blah, blah, blah. So she sets up this whole thing in a matter of seconds. mean, we've got the, what's that grill that everybody has now? The Blackstone.

Jacqueline Hanzl (15:07)
Yeah.

Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

Diana (15:33)
She's busting out the Blackstone. She's slinging breakfast burgers. We got the music going. You we set up the tents. She's got flags going, right? And you look around the parking lot. And again, it wasn't at, it wasn't ⁓ our parking lot. I think we were parking lot one. So we parked actually, she chose parking lot one. She wanted us to make sure that like, that we could see the guys coming in. So all the players come in where we parked. So we went all the way to.

Jacqueline Hanzl (15:33)
god, I don't know. my god. Yeah.

⁓ nice. Nice. ⁓

cool.

Diana (16:01)
So watching them drive by, some of them rolled their window down, some they're tinted out and you can't see. ⁓ So that was pretty cool. you know, even just for the kids to like, you know, wave and see and, you know, Devin made friends with random people. I had to borrow condiments because we forgot the condiments. So the lady next to us, we're like, let's trade ketchup for chips. ⁓ It was great. Like playing football in the parking lot. I'm, you know.

Jacqueline Hanzl (16:07)
Mm-hmm.

Nice.

Yeah. Yeah.

Heh. Right.

Nice.

So how

early, how much before the game did you guys get there?

Diana (16:32)
So

it was preseason so we didn't go out there till like nine or something-ish in the morning or like we got there at like 9 30. It was a one o'clock game. Yeah. So um it was like perfect because it was you know and you're driving through so so the stadium is essentially in a neighborhood okay so you're driving down the road and what's that oh yeah houses can you imagine like

Jacqueline Hanzl (16:37)
At what time did the game start? One? Okay.

Mm-hmm.

Like past houses. Like past houses. Like, yeah, yeah.

Now.

Diana (17:01)
Right, so you're dry like and I remember this as a kid going to a game like as a teenager with my parents and parking at the They would park at people's houses, right? So as you're dry So as you're driving all along close to the stadium the houses all advertised parking they have signs They've got flags. They're like $30 park here. There's a restroom, right? And so they all this is normal there They park people for the game and then people walk into the stadium because it's right there

Jacqueline Hanzl (17:03)
You

Walk.

Yeah, that's super close. Parking.

Diana (17:31)
As opposed to paying, we paid $100 for our parking spot.

On a pre-season game, right? So it was, the kids couldn't get over it. Like, look at these people standing out there and they got their chair, their sign, and they're opening their home for their bathroom, or they got porta-potties. It's, it's awesome. I don't think I took video of it. Every single game. And if I lived there, I would do the same thing. Absolutely. Make some money.

Jacqueline Hanzl (17:38)
Wow.

It's like a parade. It's like 4th of July in Sorghum East. mean, it's, and it's always like that every game day, every game day. yeah. Why not? Yeah.

Diana (18:00)
Watch the game.

Jacqueline Hanzl (18:01)
and

bring a little joy, you know? Yeah, I love that. Yeah.

Diana (18:03)
Isn't that cool? It was really, that was really wild. Cause it's not

like, I mean you're in, you're in Orchard Park. Like you're just driving through people's neighborhood and then there's the stadium.

Jacqueline Hanzl (18:15)
Yeah, and if you want to live, I mean, when you're choosing to live there, you're choosing, you're making a life choice.

Diana (18:21)
Absolutely, absolutely. There's no other flags flying than the Bills flags. ⁓ Yeah, think that's everything. ⁓ I would just say it like I love when they're talking about Ray Davis kicking the extra point. Like we were there for that and it was so awesome because that was during the preseason game.

Jacqueline Hanzl (18:28)
Okay, that's what I got for episode two.

Yes.

Jacqueline Hanzl (18:48)
Hey everyone, that concludes our recap of episode two of Hard Knocks training camp with the Buffalo Bills. Stay tuned. Up next is our recap of episode three. Go Bills!
