Jacqueline Hanzl (00:08)
Hi, this is Jackie.
Diana (00:09)
Hi, this is Diana.
Jacqueline Hanzl (00:11)
And this is HomeBodiesOnly where we welcome all bodies to join us as we break down and dissect HBO Max series. And this episode, we are talking about Hard Knocks, Training Camp with the Buffalo Bills, episode four. Already four, there's only five, which kind of sucks.
Diana (00:25)
Already four, here we go. All right. I know, I'm so sad. That means
it's getting closer to the opening day of football.
Jacqueline Hanzl (00:32)
To football season. Woohoo!
Billieve All right. Got to Billieve Okay. So with this one, let's kick it off. So right in the beginning, was just the, couldn't believe the intensity and the way they analyzed the players' bodies with the computer. It's amazing. Amazing.
Diana (00:38)
Gotta Billieve Gotta Billieve That's right.
Kick it off.
Isn't that cool? Yeah. And
to hear like all the progress too. You know, and even Josh talking about like his progress. ⁓ What's his name again? Chris? The guy Chris, I think it is. Yeah. Chris Hess, I think. Yeah, he's like a performance analysis. I mean, what a job. Isn't that so cool? Yeah, that was pretty cool how they keep saying it was cool. Overdoing it here.
Jacqueline Hanzl (01:02)
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Yes, it's Chris. ⁓ shoot. I had, yes, Chris Hess, yep.
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Yeah, that's right. I wonder if
what his background is, if he's like physical therapy, you know, or cause you have to know the body and all this stuff. Yeah. It's interesting. And yeah, I loved when Josh Allen started talking about his golf game and like, cause he was seeing the connection between it and the way he moved his body and all that stuff and how it's all connected. And I just, I loved that. Especially I've been
Diana (01:28)
There's got to be a lot of different. Yeah, probably. Yeah. Been around the game too.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
He's a good golfer.
He really is.
Jacqueline Hanzl (01:51)
took some golf
lessons this summer, ⁓ but I was holding it like a softball bat. that's not a connection. I'm not supposed to be holding it like a softball bat. But I learned finally how to really hold it thanks to a shout out to Brandi's husband there.
Diana (01:54)
I mean...
Okay.
Right.
Yeah.
definitely. Landon.
Jacqueline Hanzl (02:15)
Landon
Decker, in case anyone would like some golf lessons in the Hudson Valley area. He's phenomenal. Anyway, also children. Okay. Can't forget Donovan was there too. Okay. So, yes. I thought this was so funny. Jimmy Ciarlo how he stays late and he's at this hotel and it's 20 minutes away. How you said everything in Buffalo is 20 minutes away.
Diana (02:20)
Absolutely.
Mm-hmm.
right. That's why we set it up. ⁓
Mmm.
Yeah.
Proof! Even ⁓ Jimmy Ciarlo knows it. Yeah. Yeah.
Jacqueline Hanzl (02:43)
Loved it.
mean, Ciarlo said it and I was like, my God, ⁓
Jimmy and his dad, like the whole, that's just adorable. ⁓ The spelling bee was great. It was a little painful. I mean, I hope some of them were joking. They threw in some consonants that weren't in there. I was like, okay.
Diana (02:52)
Yeah.
Yes, I saw that.
that on the Buffalo Bills reel, on their social media, they'll do reels like that of like whatever it might be the question of the day or they'll play these goofy games. So when you follow them on social media, like I saw that ahead of time and there's more and it's great. So to look for that.
Jacqueline Hanzl (03:18)
my God, why don't we do,
we should do stuff like that at work. Like, I don't know when exactly, but you know, to get us like pumped up or whatever, like, hey, we're gonna have a spelling bee.
Diana (03:22)
Mm-hmm. ⁓
Right? Yeah,
just out of nowhere and make people feel dumb. at us. Right? Yes. Yeah. I'm the one who initiated that. I was like, we're doing this. Right now.
Jacqueline Hanzl (03:30)
in the hallway, just like, like that bracelet game we played. Remember the bracelet game? I forgot about that bracelet game. That's completely sidetracked side story. yeah,
anyway, did that. That was fun.
Casey Rogers, ⁓ yeah, the rescue dogs, that he, mean, come on, that's like the cutest. ⁓
Diana (03:53)
I mean, I knew I wanted to text you, but I knew you didn't
watch the episode. Yeah, I was like, oh, I told Jackie sees this and he's holding like all the puppies. So cute.
Jacqueline Hanzl (03:59)
Three of them. Yeah, I posted that. Like that. Are you kidding? Stop
it. Hard knocks. Come on.
Diana (04:06)
I know, I know.
our kicker Bass is a huge, his charity is something to do with cats. He's like a big cat lover and he's part of some group out there as well. ⁓ They didn't show, he didn't get much in this one. He's a pretty veteran, they don't really, they don't really show much of him. That's my fun fact, that's my brother's favorite player is Bass.
Jacqueline Hanzl (04:15)
why didn't they say that? Why didn't they show that part?
No.
Okay.
Diana (04:33)
He has a bass shirt. He's like his favorite Buffalo Bill currently is bass. The kicker that too, let's be honest.
Jacqueline Hanzl (04:33)
all right.
Is Bass. Does he like to just say Bass?
or he likes to be unique, you Like,
I'm not gonna jump on the bandwagon of Josh Allen. I want Bass, you know. He's gonna try to make Bass trendy.
Diana (04:50)
He's a bass guy.
Yeah, definitely. And bass loves cats. So, good Lord. Yeah. Way to go.
Jacqueline Hanzl (04:54)
Bass can marry Britney Spears or something. I'm just kidding. I got just the first name that popped in my head. ⁓
gosh. Okay. ⁓ Bass and Britney. Britney Bass. All right. I probably, I just, I don't even remember what he looked like. Okay. When two of the players started fighting, when they were, two of their own players started to fight.
Diana (05:06)
⁓ no, no. I think Bass is already married. think he's good.
It's Brittany. Beep! Sorry.
Mm-hmm.
Jacqueline Hanzl (05:25)
Okay, I can't take fighting anyway. I become like, I hate it. Like, I hate it. mean, baseball, something starts up. I'm like, no, no, no. It makes me very stressed out. And then two people on the same team fighting and they didn't even talk about it. Like they just were like, whatever. And I'm like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. And I want to know who were the two that were fighting, because I don't know. They should have been yelled at.
Diana (05:27)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
I'm sure there was some aftermath that got cut out there. Uh huh. Mm hmm.
Mm hmm.
Jacqueline Hanzl (05:54)
I really thought since they showed it that that was going to be addressed. And I was like, what's happening?
Diana (06:00)
It's funny, you'll
hear about this on other NFL teams and you're like, that would never happen. But ⁓ weren't they like cheering too? Like, cause they were like, yeah, you're getting like, yeah, yeah, yeah, come on guys. Like I thought there was one point where they were almost like they love the fire. So I don't know if it was, I don't know.
Jacqueline Hanzl (06:06)
the Bills and then they showed that.
I don't know.
I don't know either, but I didn't like
that. You can injure your playmate, your teammate, your teammate. You can injure them. I don't know the whole thing. I'm like, why?
Diana (06:24)
I know it does happen.
Yeah, it does happen. I'm not sure who it was. And I don't recall reading anything about it as a follow up or whatever. So obviously it wasn't too big. I mean, you'll hear stories too of like, you know, so and so rookie this rookie that did that and Sean McDermott had to have a talk or they were like, got kicked out, you know, they're suspended, whatever. must have been small. I know. I'm sorry.
Jacqueline Hanzl (06:35)
Mm.
Yeah, I just, I not like that.
Mm.
Yeah. Yeah. That really bugged me.
⁓ I liked how McDermott asked the two, what do they call them? Limited partners, which I don't know why that's funny that they call them limited partners. Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter that are former basketball players and whether the leadership has to come from the players.
Diana (07:04)
Yep, yep, yep.
Mm-hmm.
Jacqueline Hanzl (07:14)
I liked him asking that question and...
Just getting, yeah, their opinions and just like, what's, you know, what were some of the things you saw on the best team you ever played on? I just, I like that and like stay in your role, like know your role. I think that's with a lot of things like at work. Not, and it's not to be like put somebody down. It's like stay in your role because when you try to, believe me, stay in your lane. Yeah. And when, when you try and even if you're trying to be helpful, it doesn't usually work out.
Diana (07:20)
And they're
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
We say stay in your lane a lot, right? Mm-hmm.
Yeah, and it's so much of this game is mental, know, sports in general, but, know, you know that with baseball as well. Absolutely.
Jacqueline Hanzl (07:51)
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Like, basically, like, take care of yourself and then everybody else and, yeah, fall into place.
So Sanders punched Zach Davidson. That whole fight. That too.
Diana (08:02)
Yes, and he's he
got released by the what was that the Buccaneers? Yeah, he got released. He's been in the media too. And you know, his dad is Deon Sanders. Yeah. So this has been all over about that. And, you know, like my you know, my dad will say trained. I'm just saying like something like I'm going to be just fine. Like I was trained by my dad to handle this kind of stuff or whatever. But yes, so he's gone.
Jacqueline Hanzl (08:14)
⁓ okay. Yes, I know who Deanna ⁓
Mm-hmm, you're paraphrasing.
Diana (08:33)
They released him like right after that, think ⁓ shortly after that when he punched him in the game. And you could see some of the buildup of that in that preseason game. was little chippy stuff or whatever, but then I'm like, come on now, get over yourself. ⁓
Jacqueline Hanzl (08:34)
Do you think because of that?
Zach Davidson. Yeah.
Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah, Yep. Mm-hmm. Oh my God.
Again, I'm like, can't, I hate the fighting.
Diana (08:53)
Yeah, I like in this episode too, like, because we know that this is building up to the 53 man roster and the cuts. So that that was hard for me to watch, because I'm watching it, knowing that some of these guys like our favorites are getting cut. Right. So, for example, KJ is gone. I mean,
Jacqueline Hanzl (09:00)
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Yeah, I know. we, I think, yeah, we found
that out. I found that out before I watched it.
Diana (09:23)
Yeah. So that was hard because he was quickly a fan favorite, obviously. You know, he's he's suffered a lot of injuries and whatnot. He'll be picked up because I did know that he did not get picked up on our Practice Squad, which means he got released. Right. So that was that was sad. I'll miss the scooter. I'll always remember him for that. He's a he's a good dude. But Jimmy Ciarlo, when I was like getting so emotional, knowing that that he got cut.
Jacqueline Hanzl (09:26)
Yeah, sucked. Sucked. I know.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm. Hmm. I know. Yeah.
my God, that's what I just wrote. That's my next note.
Diana (09:53)
And like when they had like the story, like I was talking to Matt about this to him, you know, like typically like when you get ready for the football season and you see about, you know, these cuts or whatever, I was like, you never see all like the more personal stuff on some of these guys and like you get to know more about them. I'm like, I'm in love with him. I think he's great. He's such a good fit for Buffalo. And then he was cut, but then he did get signed to the Practice Squad. So I was like, yes. So it's almost like, it's like being well.
Jacqueline Hanzl (10:05)
personal stories. I know. Yeah.
And yeah.
So what does that explain that to me?
Like in AAA? Okay. That's what I thought. Okay. Okay. Yes. Yes.
Diana (10:22)
Think of it like that. Think of it like the farm team, right? Of like in baseball, because you know what that means and like single A double all that. But
think of it that way. The Practice Squad is that they're still with the Bills. They're on the Practice Squad. They could get called up. It depends on injuries and other things, but they are allowed to have, or they sign a bunch of those guys, right? So they have kids, like Shane Puschelli got cut, but now he's on the Practice Squad. So that
Jacqueline Hanzl (10:37)
Mm-hmm.
Thanks, squad.
Diana (10:51)
And he did well in that preseason game. Frank Gore Jr. I mean, that when he got caught, I was I was a little shocked just because of his dad and. Right. And so and he was he was doing really well. But again, I mean, these are I mean, these are really hard decisions, obviously. So when he came on the Practice Squad list, I was like, yes, he's done like, yes. I'm trying to think of anybody else that's stuck out.
Jacqueline Hanzl (10:53)
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. So where does the, where do they play?
Where is the Practice Squad located? Like, you know how...
Diana (11:22)
So
they'll still practice. ⁓ So they'll continue to practice.
Jacqueline Hanzl (11:25)
They'll still, okay, so it's not like I'm thinking about baseball.
So they'll practice with them.
Diana (11:30)
⁓ you know, that's a really, actually, that's a really good question. I don't know. And I don't want to sound like I know everything, but I think that there's, there is some, you know, obviously the veterans and the guys that are on that main roster are practicing together because and it depends on what, you know, what they're going to put forth in each week. ⁓ but I, I know that the Practice Squad still does their thing. I don't know. I'm sure there's some overlap there. ⁓ that's a good question. ⁓
Jacqueline Hanzl (11:35)
Right, right.
Yeah,
I guess I gotta Google it.
Diana (12:00)
For sure. Who else
popped up on that list? ⁓ Jordan Phillips popped up on that list, so that was good. ⁓ I know you saw that I shared Poyer's back. So if you remember Jordan Poyer is one of our safeties who was very loved in Buffalo. And then ⁓ once he became a free agent, he ended up signing with the Dolphins and now he's back.
So he's gone and came back. that's not like the first time we've had some of that too. So I am so excited that he's back. ⁓ Probably only be for, you know, I think it's, signed like a year contract or whatever. And I know that his wife has been on social media before just about like the culture of the Bills versus the Dolphins and how Buffalo does it right. And like, she was missing Buffalo a lot and the families and the people. And she, ⁓ I think just the way that
Jacqueline Hanzl (12:28)
Yay. Nice. Right.
Mm-hmm.
Mmm.
Hmm.
Diana (12:58)
you know, just the whole organization. So I know that she's super pumped to be back in Buffalo because he spent a lot of time in Buffalo, you know, raising a family as well. So and they're super cool. does. You would like you should follow him on Instagram. He's really into like different like like yoga and fitness and retreats. And it's so cool to get to know them. Yeah. Anyway.
Jacqueline Hanzl (13:07)
⁓ yeah.
Okay.
that's cool. ⁓
Zach Davidson is a punter, but also a tight end. So I got a little confused. But didn't Jimmy Ciarlo also play like a couple different positions?
Diana (13:32)
Yeah, so he
Yeah, they were talking about that as well and like what he played in previously like an army and whatnot. ⁓
Jacqueline Hanzl (13:40)
He was talking about this dad, about- Yeah.
But
I just thought a punter, mean, I could be wrong. Okay, there's, okay, now you gotta explain this to me. Is there a different, there's a kicker and a punter, two different things.
Diana (13:50)
What's up? Yeah. Mm-hmm. So
I think they were talking about, was it Zach Davidson, right? That he was the punter during that game. He...
Jacqueline Hanzl (13:58)
Mm-hmm.
So what is the
punter starts off? Doesn't the punter start off?
Diana (14:04)
So your punter will punt, like let's say it's fourth down and 12, right? And they're like, we're definitely not gonna go for this, right? In the game situation, depending on what the situation is, it's fourth and 12, fourth and 20, we're gonna punt this away. So your punter punts the ball away, right? And to the other team, right?
Jacqueline Hanzl (14:12)
Okay.
Okay.
but
they are also playing another position.
Diana (14:30)
So not always, sometimes like they're, yeah, mean, have punters been on special teams and punters have, but I think Zach Davidson, right? He did some of that early on, right? When he was younger. So it's just like when they had Ray Davis kick the extra point, like back in the day, he's like, I think that's when Bass was injured and he wasn't gonna be kicking the extra point or whatever it was in the preseason game I went to.
Jacqueline Hanzl (14:32)
No, not always. Okay. So they punt and like start that...
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Yes.
Diana (15:00)
And so we saw some of that in the first or second episode, right? So Ray Davis is like, I can, you know, I can do kicking, right? So bass typically.
Jacqueline Hanzl (15:04)
Yes, I can do it. So it's not everybody
can, and then the kicker is obviously trying to make a feel, feel goal. So it's two different types of kicks. It's two different types of kicks.
Diana (15:10)
He makes the field goals, right? And he also does the extra point. ⁓
Feel goals, extra points, kickoffs, right? ⁓ Meaning like, did they have to punt the ball away or did they score a touchdown and now they're going to have another kickoff, right? So there's some differences there with your punters and your kickers.
Jacqueline Hanzl (15:19)
Right. Okay.
Now they're going for the... Yes. Okay. All right.
So if the punter punts the ball and he's not playing any other position, he just leaves, he goes off the field. That's what I'm trying to understand. and they can? I don't know why the whole thing... But isn't that an extra body? Okay.
Diana (15:43)
Well, we've seen punters then make a tackle sometimes. Because you're now it's so like your special teams is out there, right?
He's there, right? So there have been times if you watch football, right? The punter is like then becoming almost like the safety in the backfield, right? Because if they're not able, let's say typically that ball is punted and either they punted in end zone or close to or however, and then that's they might take a knee and.
Jacqueline Hanzl (15:54)
Might as well.
Diana (16:11)
that's where the ball is gonna be or whatever, right? But sometimes they will receive the ball and then they'll start running, right? To get extra yardage. And you've seen, I'm sure, or you will, ⁓ like a punt return and then it turns into like this big yardage or a touchdown even. Those are very exciting. But let's say, you know, somebody, ⁓ they catch the ball, right? And they start running down.
Jacqueline Hanzl (16:12)
Mm-hmm.
Mm, ⁓ yeah.
Diana (16:38)
and people are missing the tackles, well now your punter's out there. It's not uncommon to see the punter go in and try to tackle.
Jacqueline Hanzl (16:43)
so they can do that. Now, this is another stupid
question. ⁓ So with the punter being on the field to punt, but did both teams still have the same amount of players on the field?
Do you know saying?
Diana (16:58)
I don't think I understand your question.
Jacqueline Hanzl (17:00)
How many, okay, how many players are on the field at one time? Like in baseball, it's nine.
Diana (17:07)
Well,
so in baseball, yeah.
Jacqueline Hanzl (17:11)
it's nine.
So in football, how many players, is it a different amount of players on offense than defense or no? Or is it the same amount and does both teams have the same amount of players on the football field at the same time?
Diana (17:26)
Well, during like a play, have 22, is it right? 22 players are on the field during football.
Jacqueline Hanzl (17:32)
You're asking me.
Okay.
Diana (17:36)
Yeah, so you have 11 and 11, right? So it's nine in baseball and you've got 11 on each team.
Jacqueline Hanzl (17:38)
All right, a total. Yeah. Each time.
team, okay. So my question, that's why I don't totally understand if there's a punter, he's in that 11. He's not like the 12th.
Diana (17:55)
for like a kickoff. Now you're getting me all confused. Yeah. Yes.
Jacqueline Hanzl (17:57)
Yeah, whatever the punter does. Not
a field goal, obviously, that's different. ⁓ So, that's what I didn't understand. Like, I thought if you were a punter, you just came and you punted the ball. That's what I thought. That's what I was asking. Because I really, I never thought about it till now. And now I'm like, my God, this sounds like really stupid questions. It's kind of like saying someone, they don't know how to kick a football.
Diana (18:08)
You punt and then you walk off. No, he's actually on the field until that play goes down. Yes. Okay.
Jacqueline Hanzl (18:26)
Of course, they probably know how to kick a football. They've probably kicked a football before. Yeah. I'm being in a dumb, dumb. Okay. I guess I'm like, can a pitcher, like I'm thinking about baseball, not everybody can pitch. Like that's what I'm saying. Not everybody can pitch. Yes. But that's not what I'm, I'm more thinking like when somebody's a pitcher, that's pretty much all they do. So I'm thinking, oh, if somebody's a punter, that's all they do.
Diana (18:28)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. No, you're okay. You're fine. We love you.
Well, the pitcher, you know, the pitcher then might be involved in a play too, right? If it, the first baseman has to go and get, and then he, that's not what saying.
Mm-hmm.
Jacqueline Hanzl (18:55)
Like the field goal, the kicker is only a kicker. That one's only a kicker. And usually they're like, right? That's all they do.
Diana (18:55)
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, like you're the,
that's their job. Yes. So yes, they're the job, right? But yeah, back and forth, this might get edited. It's all good. Yes.
Jacqueline Hanzl (19:04)
Yes. Okay. Thank you. All right. Maybe I should cut this part out.
No, you know what? I'm not going to cut it out. I'm trying to learn, you know,
and I probably I wouldn't ask these questions if I didn't want to know for sure. I just would just be like, OK, cool, whatever. He punted and who cares? So I think I got stuck on the kicker thing and was confused about that. don't know. OK. And then I just said watching and knowing KJ Hamler gets cut. mean, that's.
Diana (19:21)
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah. Yeah.
Ugh.
I know I hate that. I really do hate that.
Jacqueline Hanzl (19:36)
that part. Did
it? Did it? And I didn't, obviously we watched it, I didn't watch it the night it aired. Did the cuts, were the cuts like the day after the night it aired? I don't think.
Diana (19:48)
Yeah, you already
knew the cuts before it aired. At least I did. Yeah, like we already knew that guys were getting cut. I think before that episode was released. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And that kind of stunk too when you watch it because you already knew. And that's why maybe I was like especially. But then it was after I watched it that I saw the Practice Squad signings. So because they signed to be on the Practice Squad when they don't make the team.
Jacqueline Hanzl (19:51)
before I aired, we knew the cuts.
I just couldn't, it was before, yes, because you texted me and you said KJ Hamler. And I was like, wait a minute. I know. Yeah.
Practice squad? Yeah.
Yeah, I got to, I'm going to look up stuff
about the Practice Squad. So I understand it because in baseball, you know, the farm team or whatever they play and they, they play in a totally different location than the team. They're not playing. They're, they're practicing. That's what I mean. So it's not a minor league football team or something. Okay. And they, because I've never heard that term before. Why would I? I've never paid attention. So, so the Practice Squad practices with them.
Diana (20:19)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Right. Yeah, these guys aren't playing. It's not like there's like a minor league. Yeah, they're not like.
Right, right.
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Jacqueline Hanzl (20:46)
Do they go to all the, I assume, do they travel with them then obviously they must?
Diana (20:51)
That's probably ⁓ I don't think they get dressed though Technically because you can only you have a 53 man roster Not all guy like they're not getting dressed typically unless they're being swapped out And so they move somebody down to the Practice Squad and then bringing somebody up They wouldn't get dressed so to speak ⁓ But you'll see you'll see guys like like Poyer on the sidelines even though he's a Practice Squad guy and he's gonna come up
Jacqueline Hanzl (20:55)
Okay.
Okay.
Right? Yep. Okay.
Okay. I'm going to have to look into that. Okay. Interesting.
Okay,
yeah. And how many are on the Practice Squad? Do you know?
Diana (21:26)
what was that like 20 I actually have the practice squads signings right here one two three
Jacqueline Hanzl (21:28)
Is it the same for every team?
Diana (21:33)
There's 16 on the one, the signings that they had the day that I checked, they have 16 on that. And that included Poyer who just got signed like that day.
so probably could be more, but that's what I've got on my roll call here. Yeah, because I was looking on my, I have the cuts and then I had the Practice Squad. saved them because I wanted to have that to tell you. You're welcome.
Jacqueline Hanzl (21:45)
That's what they have. Okay.
Thank you. Okay.
I think that's all I got.
Diana (22:02)
⁓ let's see. I'm surprised you didn't ask me about, ⁓ Jimmy Ciarlo And he spent a lot of time talking about being a nickel playing nickel defense. And I was, I was waiting for you to ask me because I'm like, know.
Jacqueline Hanzl (22:03)
What do you
Shoot, I must have not written
it down, but yeah, didn't know what was happening.
Diana (22:17)
I went to text you and be like, do you
know what he's talking about? Like, did you pick up, do you get a sense of what that meant?
Jacqueline Hanzl (22:22)
I picked up on it.
my God, I know at the time I did, but I don't remember now. So tell me, no, tell me.
Diana (22:26)
Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's okay. Sorry.
So
that's like a fifth defensive player, right? So that can come, ⁓ so he becomes like the fifth defensive back in the game, right? And so that's why they call it a nickel because it's the fifth defensive, yeah. Because he, instead of ⁓ like your lineman, if you will, right? Then this could be a position where, let's say, ⁓
Jacqueline Hanzl (22:35)
⁓ okay, yeah. yes, yes.
Okay.
Fifth, back.
Diana (23:00)
you know, like they want more coverage because of like, like the passing game versus like the running game, right? And so depending on maybe what the offense is doing and changing some of the plays or they're picking up on that. ⁓ So they want them to be, you know, like picking up on like, again, that fifth, that fifth defensive back person is then to help with, I think more of like the passing.
Jacqueline Hanzl (23:10)
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Diana (23:25)
that habit because you got the run giga stuff the run game and then you got the passing game and then so it gives them maybe a little more depth in the back so ⁓ it's not up to like you know your your cornerbacks and your safeties right so it's kind of cool that's what was funny like watching some of like that footage of him playing that and he did good though i thought he did well with it and the way he's he's a hard worker like he's a football player right so i think they they talked about that he went to west point
Jacqueline Hanzl (23:29)
You
Okay.
Okay.
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Yeah. Yes. Yeah. And he went to West, didn't he go to West
Point? So he also is very like rigid and I mean, everybody pretty much has to be, but ⁓ he's like, they call it like a soldier, didn't they? And then Rambo, Buffalo soldier. And then,
Diana (23:55)
Yeah!
Hence why, yeah, but he's used to, Buffalo Soldier, right? But didn't he say, Buffalo Soldier, and I don't know if
he said that or it was a nickname that he liked. Was it Rambo? He had a bunch of nicknames. They're like, which one do you like best, right? So that was really cool. Buffalo Joe. Yes, yes. So he, last year was his rookie season.
Jacqueline Hanzl (24:10)
Rambo, but they called him Rambo. know. Yes. But Joe Buffalo or Buffalo Joe, sorry, is safe. He wasn't, yeah.
Diana (24:27)
So he made the cut and he's sticking around. Yeah, it's like the hometown hero. ⁓ And I forgot in the, like when we were talking about ⁓ episodes one, two and three, I totally forgot to tell you, I was watching the Hard Knocks when we were traveling to Buffalo. I'm watching it in the car and we're on the thruway and Matt's driving.
Jacqueline Hanzl (24:28)
Okay. And he's good. Okay.
Yes, so cute.
Mm-hmm. ⁓
Diana (24:54)
And I totally forgot to tell you this. He said something, because he listened to the podcast and he goes, why didn't you tell Jackie about what happened when they were doing the epinessa stuff about hunting for snakes? Right? So remember when they were down in Florida and the barbers were doing his hair and he was talking about like, they were talking about like your off season or whatever. And so he goes like snake hunting, right? So I'm watching it and I'm like, ⁓ like I all weirded out or whatever, but all of sudden.
Jacqueline Hanzl (25:11)
Yes. Yes. Yes.
Yes.
Yeah. Yeah.
Diana (25:23)
the part where they took the snake and he went like this to the camera. I scream because you know how I am. go and I had one of my moments in the car and that goes, what's up?
Jacqueline Hanzl (25:26)
Yes, yes. no, no. Did Matt
slam on the brakes or something?
Diana (25:37)
And I go, I'm so sorry. And I took my earbuds out. I was like, I am so sorry. He's like, jeez. And he's laughing because he knows that I can't help it. And I was just like, I'm so sorry. And we're driving. Like, I'm the thruway of all places. I'm screaming Yes, yes. And I'm like, oh gosh. Oh no. Like a garden snake, right? Just, yeah.
Jacqueline Hanzl (25:37)
man.
He's like, I just got into an accident. Yeah.
Oh my God. I forgot about the snake hunting thing. What's funny is I saw a snake today by our pool. Yeah. And scared the crap out of Donovan, but I scared it back into the, yeah, I scared it back into the
outside of the pool. I did not want it like it was right by our lounge chairs. earlier, yeah, and earlier I saw a dead snake in our front yard. I don't know what's up with the snakes today. I don't know.
Diana (26:07)
Mm-mm.
Ew. What's up with that?
Is there some maybe that's some good luck or something? Snakes.
Jacqueline Hanzl (26:21)
Yeah, snakes do symbolize transformation, actually. I hope so. No, I mean, there's always been snakes in our yard and there has been snakes that know that hang out by the pool, but usually they don't come onto the patio, you know, whatever you want to call it. This is a very exciting talk we got going here. But Donovan scared the snake, not on purpose, to come onto the pool area. And I was like, oh, no, no, no, no. So I scared it back out. was like, no.
Diana (26:25)
Maybe it was eating a mouse or something for you? I don't... And then got attacked by something.
Off topic. Yeah, I know. ⁓
Yeah.
No, no, no, no. Next thing
you know, the pool, like you got the snake on a lounge chair or on like the noodle, the pool noodle just hanging out, floating. Oh dear me. You are very brave.
Jacqueline Hanzl (26:52)
It's banned.
I rescued a snake out of a bush last year. Did you, I put it on my story.
Well, it was tangled up. looked like in this like thorn bush and I couldn't walk away. I walked away and I was like, I can't. I got a stick and I like untwisted it. I thought it was dead because it was just kind of sitting there then it was like, when it started, you know, sticky. And I was like, I'm sorry. And I got it off.
Diana (27:06)
Oh, you're so good. Oh, gosh. What'd you do? Get like a stick or something?
Yeah.
⁓ Bye, sorry,
No, thanks. Well, the only thing I will say is think I'm a little bit sad that there's one episode left. And the other thing I would say is it stinks because I wish that they would end it at like the tailgate of like the home opener to get like some of that footage of like.
Jacqueline Hanzl (27:28)
I couldn't leave it.
Yeah.
Yeah, I know I'm
really bummed. I mean, they focused a bit on Bills Mafia, it wasn't enough to me.
Diana (27:46)
but I know it's just about training camp.
It wasn't enough either. don't think so. and it's and they were there at that preseason game, but obviously it wasn't like full fledged. So it was like an abbreviated version and then they didn't they barely and they were there. They were there filming during that whole thing. So I'm surprised, but I don't know. We'll see what's left. And I mean, I guess, you know, at that point, I mean, it's really not about the season. It's about what leads to the season. So it's just, you know, something I like would like a little bit more of.
Jacqueline Hanzl (27:54)
because we didn't get to see the season built.
Yeah. No, that's what... Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
to it. Yes.
Yeah. Maybe there'll be a bonus episode. Maybe the mafia can have their own series.
Diana (28:22)
fan stuff. I don't know. Right? All about the mafia. I'm like they should they should come to the home of the.
Oh they they do they probably know there's there's some documentaries being done too. think um I think Andre Reed's involved in a documentary. He's he's one of our former yeah um no no but he was coached by Marv Levy who's behind me.
Jacqueline Hanzl (28:41)
Right? You have a Fisher-Price doll. no, you don't have a Fisher-Price doll. No, not of Andre Reed. Okay.
The hundred year old guy. Right.
Diana (28:48)
And the quarterback at the time was Jim Kelly, but Andre Reed
still and you saw Thurman Thomas another Hall of Famer, former Buffalo Bill. You saw him come to St. John Fisher and get to like talk with the guys. ⁓ But anyway, like think he's involved in one and then there's another one. I think I think it is called just I don't know if this is the one there's two going on right now, but I know one of them is called Just One Before I Die. And they've been filming that, so I don't think I don't think it's an HBO project. I think one's.
Jacqueline Hanzl (28:54)
Mm-hmm.
Mm, yep.
Diana (29:18)
maybe maybe it's netflix i don't know but it should be hbo so that we can cover it but whatever we'll see anyway that's it
Jacqueline Hanzl (29:20)
Okay. That's right. I know.
All right.
All right. ⁓ Check us out at btrpmedia.com, homebodiesonly.com. We're on TikTok. We're on Instagram. It's homebodiesonly_pod though, on Instagram. Yeah. There'll be two accounts of homebodiesonly podcast, but we're the underscore pod. The other one I can't have access to. I don't know why it's corrupted. I don't know what I did. Must've been all that, you know.
Diana (29:41)
Yes, don't forget the
It's locked. Whips-a-daisy. Mm-hmm. That was a while. Yeah.
Jacqueline Hanzl (29:56)
Porn. Can't help it.
Okay. Go Bills.
Diana (30:03)
All right, that's enough. All right, go Bills.
